What Your Guild Site Shouldn’t Be
As the CEO at Guild Press I often patrol the internet looking for guild sites. Being a World of Warcraft player I also cruise for new guilds every once in a while as well.
I’ve seen a lot of guild sites. Hundreds if not thousands of guild sites.
Sadly, most of them are the same. Sadly, most of them are overloaded.
I don’t go visit your guild site to vote in a poll. I visit your guild site to be informed. Your members typically don’t visit your guild site to vote in a poll. They visit to stay connected to the latest events or communicate.
I don’t visit your guild site to see hundreds of graphics that even in the world of broadband take several seconds to load. I visit for the information.
If I’m looking to join your guild you should make it easy. Give me an application. Make it a form because I don’t want to copy and paste the application from your forums and repost it.
Tell me what your guild is doing. Post some news items, post some blogs. Give me a reason to visit your guild site.
If you are a progression guild tell me about your recent boss encounters, show me what you’ve done. If you are a casual guild tell me about your activities or your members.
If I am visiting and looking to join show me your open recruitment spots. Don’t bother telling me what is closed. I can deduce that on my own.
Give my guild a way to contact your guild about alliances or other items. We’d rather NOT register on your forums either. Give us a simple contact form.
I don’t care about the “cool animations” you are putting on the sidebar. I can’t tell you how many times I see guild sites with stupid images of a character emoting. I don’t care.
When I visit a guild site I want the information, less distractions, a fast loading page, and an easy way to contact you.
You guild site shouldn’t be overloaded with irrelevant items.
What do you look for in a guild site? Disagree with what I’ve said? Let me know in the comments.
