Random Bags of Crap

Guilds are typically a lot more fun when you have guild events.

In the past I ran a guild that was primarily known for guild events on our server. We had a lot of members join because we were a casual guild and they saw our members at an event or read about them on our website.

Coming up with creative and fun guild events isn’t always easy though so I’m going to be posting some of the best event ideas I’ve used in the past over the course of several posts.

Before each event we held a raffle called the ‘Random Bags of Crap’. The concept here is really simple.

As the guild master before the event I’d buy up some random greens, blues, and a few epics that people in the guild might use as well as some random items of grey quality. Then I’d buy wrapping paper  from various vendors and wrap all of the items. Players were informed via the guild site and guild chat that Random Bags of Crap would be taking place at the next event and that the cost would 1 gold. Each wrapped item was then mailed to an alt, placed in the alt’s bags randomly and then mailed back to my main. This would ensure that the items were truly mixed and that I didn’t know which wrapped item was which real item.

At the start of the event anyone who wanted to buy a random bag of crap approached me, opened trade and placed 1 gold in the trade window. I’d place the random wrapped item and we’d initiate the trade. Each guild member was allowed to buy one random gift.

The members would then open the wrapped item and see what they got. For many it was just a random item and no one ever complained because the concept was fun and knew that the gold was going directly to the guild bank to help fund benefits we offered to members. Some members would find epics they needed and others would find items they didn’t need but would trade with other members to get what they needed.

Overall the event is really easy to pull off. It does take a bit of time to gather everything but once you get it started it can be really fun.

What are your thoughts on this event? Let me know in the comments. Also be sure to stay tuned as I’ll be posting more events I’ve tried in the past.
