Jackie‘s professional bio / interests
Jackie’s first novel, Glass Houses, domestic noir and popular book group read, was published by Urbane Publications in 2016. Her self-help memoir, Tea & Chemo, also Urbane Publications, 2017, was voted Live Better With's 'Best Cancer Book, 2017’, and sat in the Amazon Oncology Top Ten for five years until Urbane Publications sadly folded.
Creative writing teacher and editor, Jackie also volunteers for Yorkshire Cancer Research in fundraising and publicity events and as a lay-member of various panels for innovation in cancer treatment.
Jackie lives in Yorkshire with her family and when not at her desk, can generally be found tripping up or getting lost outside.
I’d like help with…
Oh, where to start! My latest novel and its synopsis, generally. Although any help with cracking the introduction of its five characters altogether without confusion would certainly help.
An interesting, or unusual fact(s) about me…
I smashed up my arm in a spin drier and should have lost it, and I had a secondary cancer diagnosis reversed three years later... I really am the luckiest girl alive so try not to sweat the small stuff.
I love running (and sport generally) and write my best stuff in my head plodding over Yorkshire hill and dale.
I'm profoundly deaf in one ear and the other's not too great either, but I manage pretty well thanks to the combination of the amazing tech in my hearing aids (I can bore for England on that) and amateur lip reading. When it's real loud and busy, that's my moment to shine!
I live in
GB
A career highlight
Getting the call about a two book deal with the publisher.
