I'm a weird blend of copywriter and business strategist. These days, I mostly help founders tell stories that mean business, but it's been a journey. In 1997, I quit a "good job" at IBM's New Media Lab and founded a digital agency, Semantic. Over the next 18 years, we won clients around the world, but by 2015 I needed a change. I took a sabbatical to try writing a thriller ... and LOVED it. But it was;t just fun, something else happened. As I studied the tools and techniques of storytelling, I found parallel after parallel with the way I had built the agency. We'd never done traditional marketing, advertising or selling ... we'd told stories and let the clients come to us. A totally different approach. In 2018, I sold the agency and founded Stories Mean Business. I mostly work with founders, helping them tell their story, build worlds and make a difference.

I've sailed across the Atlantic, written three 5-Star thrillers, hosted over 900 podcasts ... and accidentally left my pyjamas on while getting into Mensa – which says a lot about the value of IQ. I'll take common sense, any day.

A career highlight
In 2020, I wrote the story for Luke Murfitt, the UK Entrepreneur of the Year, which took his brand "to the next level" (his words). That was a good moment.
