Lesley's professional bio / interests

I worked for many years for Royal Bank of Scotland and then, ,after my children were at school, for Clydesdale Bank plc. I saw massive changes in banking and not everyone thought they were for the better. However I hung in there and tried to embrace selling instead of service. I finally ended up winning European salesperson of the month and got a trip with fancy lunch to Head Office, £200 of Next vouchers, some cash and a trophy . Doesn’t seem like much nowadays but believe me it was a big deal back in the day. I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease around 2004 so took early retirement from the bank at that point as i was eligible to receive my bank pension. I did some temping work as a legal secretary for a couple of years until my husband felt he was ready to retire, having been a .Manager of the Test Centre for Gates Power Transmission in Dumfries and prior to that in various roles with ICI, also in Dumfries. After we retired we found that our daughters were living at the other end of the country as one was a junior doctor at Addenbrookes in Cambridge and the other was an outreach worker in Whitstable Kent, which meant 600;and 800 mile round trips to visit. When our first grandson arrived I was fed up spending so much time traveling so after some thought we decided to sell up in Scotland and move south to be nearer our children and grandchildren.. we wanted to be near but not on their doorstep so decided on the beautiful city of Ely, Cambs, and have never regretted it ,I volunteer as a welcomer at the cathedral as I am very interested in old buildings but now do it from a mobility scooter as my illness progresses, I have also volunteered as an online bookmark volunteer as I feel I can still need of some use to the world and it stops me from dwelling on my health problems. My main interests are history, especially historic buildings genealogy and socialise as best I can given my disabilities . I have friends who come regularly to play Mah Jhong ,,Scrabble or Canasta and every couple of months the female neighbours come around and we have a girls film afternoon. They come here as it is difficult to access most gardens and houses in a wheelchair.
