Helen's professional bio / interests

Helen is a biochemist with a focus on translational research for the benefits of human health. She has published ~ 180 peer reviewed papers to date in her academic career, pursuing new knowledge of mechanisms of inflammation and degenerative diseases that are associated with ageing and supervised over 30 wonderful PhD students to successful completion of their research degrees. She is a member of the Editorial Board for Redox Biology. Helen was awarded a personal Chair in Biomedical Sciences in 2005. She founded the Aston Centre for Healthy Ageing in 2009 that takes a multidisciplinary approach to understanding and promoting successful ageing by asking how biological, technological, strategic, therapeutic and psychosocial strategies can be employed to understand ageing and to mitigate its negative effects. Her research is collaborative in nature, with clinicians and industrial partners, with the goal to develop new research talent and knowledge which together have a positive impact on healthy ageing.
