I have been an ophthalmology consultant for 12 years at St Thomas’ hospital in London and have also been Clinical Lead for the South East London Diabetic Eye Screening Programme for 7 years. During this time I have been passionate about striving to improve the quality of the service. This has included helping to train graders to recognise different pathologies, not only diabetes related but other non DR sight threatening pathologies to improve referrals and increase understanding. I have also co-produced a video called Danny’s story about a type 1 patient who lost his sight through non-attendance to highlight the importance of screening visits and have more recently Co-ordinated an OCT grading training e-learning platform to try to improve training amongst graders.
