Guild is a messaging app for professional groups, networks and communities.

A safe space to communicate, connect and collaborate.

As easy to use as consumer messaging apps and social media platforms, but ad-free and with the privacy, security, control and regulatory compliance necessary for professional use.

However you start your journey with Guild, we thought it would be useful to explain the 5 different types of Guild user.

There are 5 different types and levels of Guild users

Some people are invited to join Guild groups and so only ever see Guild as a Member.

Other people wish to set up and run professional groups and communities on Guild and so experience Guild as an Account Owner an Admin or a group Host.

Let's explain the different Guild users and what they can do by using fictional Guild customer REPCA - a professional membership organisation.

REPCA want to create a number of customer branded private groups and communities on Guild to provide value to their members. They also want to use Guild as a WhatsApp alternative for their internal comms.

Account Owner

There can only be one named Owner on an account and they set up the main company or organisation Guild Business account via the pricing page here.

An Account Owner is the main point of contact for Guild and is the billing contact.

Let's take our fictional Professional Membership Organisation called REPCA. Sara Jennings is their Head of Membership. She is the Guild Account Owner. Sara uses her REPCA email address to set up the Guild Account.

Owners have full access to Guild analytics and the admin section which can be accessed in the browser version of Guild.

Account Owners can:

  • set up and manage Guild groups
  • customise branding on Guild groups
  • invite/remove members from Guild groups
  • post, pin, feature and delete messages in Guild groups
  • edit information about Guild groups
  • access Guild group analytics and data
  • invite Admins and Hosts who can set up and manage more Guild groups under the account

Sara wants a single large REPCA member group on Guild and she also wants colleagues to set up and manage a number of Guild groups for their members: REPCA North, REPCA South, REPCA Trustees, REPCA Agency Leaders, REPCA Sustainability Taskforce, REPCA Staff Team, REPCA Inspire Event etc.

Account Admins

Admins are invited by email by the Account Owner.
Admins have full access to Guild analytics and admin dashboard.

Guild Admins can:

  • set up and manage Guild groups
  • customise branding on Guild groups
  • invite/remove members from Guild groups
  • post, pin, feature and delete messages in Guild groups
  • edit information about Guild groups
  • access Guild group analytics and data
  • invite Admins and Hosts who can set up and manage more Guild groups under the account

Sara invites 5 REPCA colleagues (Joe, Kebe, Li Min, Cara and Michelle) as Admins to set up and manage the 8 different Guild groups on the REPCA account.

Hosts

Hosts can be invited by Owners or Admins if they want support hosting and managing Guild groups and communities.

Hosts don’t have access to Guild analytics and the admin section.

Guild group Hosts could be partners, customers, sponsors, experts or other invited  individuals who can run a group but won't have powers to set up, edit information about groups or see any analytics data.

Guild group Hosts can:

  • post, pin, feature and delete messages in Guild groups
  • invite, and remove members to the group(s) they host via the (mobile or web) front end of the app (not the browser admin)
  • approve members requesting access to discoverable groups

For example, Cara is the admin of the REPCA Sustainability Taskforce Guild group. She asks a sustainability specialist at BVA Energy to co-host the Guild group and deal with very specific questions from their members.

Cara the Guild group admin, invites Asif Saddique from BVA Energy to host this Guild group on the 'Invitations' tab of the Admin Section .

Moderators

Moderators have the same permissions as the group host, but they're not as visible. The Moderator role allows you to assign individuals to support your host in managing conversations and members, without having access to your account-wide user data and analytics.

Guild Moderators can:

  • post, pin, feature and delete messages in Guild groups
  • invite, and remove members to the group(s) they moderat
  • approve members requesting access to discoverable groups

Back at REPCA, Cara's been called on to another project. She asks a member of her team, Tim, to support Asif while she's away. Tim isn't authorized to have access to member data or the other groups on the account, so Cara invites him to the group and assigns him as a Moderator.

Members

Then there are Guild members. Members can be invited into Guild groups by Owners, Admins or Hosts.

Members can:

  • create or contribute to conversations in groups they are invited into
  • direct message his/her Guild contacts who are in shared groups or personal contacts that they have invited to connect in Guild

Let's go back to REPCA. Once set up, Joe, Kebe, Li Min, Cara and Michelle  can invite relevant REPCA members and others to their private Guild groups. REPCA members can belong to more than one Guild group.

Tip: Anyone can be a Guild member and experience Guild groups before creating their own. Download Guild from an App Store and join our 'Welcome to Guild Group'.
