Rachel‘s professional bio / interests
I am interested in looking at organisations inside out – putting people, whether they are customers or our staff at the heart of our thinking. I have spent the last 17 years in the Civil Service, starting in the Prison Service where I joined as a Leadership Development Consultant and after a few years became the Head of Organisational Development for the Prison and Probation service. Both these roles were brilliant and helped me to see and understand complexity in the workplace. I worked with some great people, doing amazing jobs. I then spent 18 months in the Home Office day was starting on Day 8 of the first lockdown – my first role was leading the behavioural change team and my second was as HRD for Immigration Enforcement. Working in IE was eye opening and myth busting – observing our people do everything in their power to help and support those that landed on our shores was almost heart breaking. Prior to this I worked mainly in retail – both in HR and in store operations. I joined T K Maxx (love it or hate it?) as a store manager when there were only 28 stores and quickly moved into Learning & Development leaving when there were over 200 stores. A lesson in change and growth – the do’s and don’ts.
