Building Inclusive Cultures

Building Inclusive Cultures

This is a community to support individuals committed to building a professional culture of belonging, wherever you work. Bringing together those with lived experiences of discrimination, allies and business leaders, it’s a safe space to have awkward conversations, ask difficult questions, share successes and failures and celebrate the value of diversity and inclusion in our workplaces. We encourage listening, reflecting and learning from each other, through organised training and events as well as informal sharing of resources, data and experiences. The aim is to provide everyone who cares about building an inclusive professional culture with the tools and skills they need to keep making progress. Who is the community for? • Those working to build inclusive organisational cultures that drive engagement and innovation • Those wanting to understand what they can do to support inclusive culture building efforts • Board leaders steering through the challenges of building and sustaining an inclusive organisation • Anyone else who wants to learn ******************** Up until early 2020 I had just been dabbling with the diversity, equity and inclusion field. I would take the work on at my company as a passion project but without a clear purpose. In early 2020 I decided to take the plunge and study about the field. Then the senseless murder of George Floyd happened, and the alarms bells in my head wouldn’t go off. This single event stopped me in my nice comfortable track and made me reflect. It exposed the discrimination I had suffered and buried all my life (notwithstanding that I think I have done ok in life). I vowed to really use my platform to use my skills in the diversity, equity and inclusion field, to help others make the world a better place. I have no shame in saying this. I get up everyday, as I now have three children who, through no fault of their own, will experience some form of discrimination. I have to do all I can to help businesses and all organisations embrace equity and inclusion and unleash the power of diversity. This will in turn help improve society so that the world will be that little bit better for my children, and yours.
