Jayne‘s professional bio / interests
I'm a Trade Union Organiser working in the South East of England, with a Diploma in Organising from the TUC Organising Academy. My relationship with trade unions began when I was teaching in South Korea in 2005 - with my colleagues, we set up the first international teachers’ trade union there. On returning to the UK, I became active in the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) and held a variety of roles; in particular, I won the Outstanding Union Learning Representative of the Year award in 2015. I then worked for the ATL and the National Education Union (NEU) before coming to work for the PDA as an Organiser. I am the PDA Lead on Equalities, and coordinate the women's and LGBT+ networks.

An interesting, or unusual fact(s) about me…
Prior to working for trade unions, my background was in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. I have over 10 years' teaching experience in the UK, South Korea and Russia and am a Fellow of the HEA. Alongside my job, I am a part-time PhD candidate in Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of Southampton, where I hold a Vice Chancellor's scholarship. My project uses ethnography to focus on EU nationals and how they use language to construct narratives of (un)belonging in Southampton.
