Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving, designed to encourage us all to come together and use our time, money or skills to support the causes and communities that are close to our hearts.

At Guild, we're delighted to announce that we're joining with this incredible partnership again in 2020. We're offering registered charities in the UK use of our ad-free, professional messaging app for FREE, for life (see Terms & Conditions below).

How can Guild help charities?

Charities need private, GDPR compliant spaces to communicate, connect and collaborate with a range of partners including staff, volunteers, supporters, donors and trustees.

2020 has made good communication even more crucial than ever as charities try to build and sustain a feeling of community without being able to meet in person. Messaging apps like WhatsApp might be ubiquitous but come with privacy, organisational and governance difficulties.

As part of the Giving Tuesday initiative, Guild is offering registered charities in the UK free access to its GDPR-compliant, ad-free, and easy to use professional messaging app (see Terms & Conditions).

How do I sign my charity up for Guild's Giving Tuesday offer?

It's easy to sign up to Guild: go to our pricing page and choose the 'Scale' free trial. Give your charity name as the Account Name so we can check you are indeed a registered charity and will not be charged.

Contact us at any point and we will remove the cap on membership for your charity. (note: no credit card or financial details are required to set up the account).

There's some more information on setting up your first group here.

What can charities use Guild for?

Charities use Guild for all kinds of activities to connect with their supporters, volunteers, staff, donors, partners and trustees. You can:

  • Create working groups for specific activities and campaigns
  • Manage an event and instantly message and update a team of staff and volunteers
  • Co-ordinate volunteers and their work (take a look at how child literacy charity Bookmark co-ordinates a network of 350+ volunteers)
  • Provide a group of trustees, donors, supporters, or beneficiaries with news and other updates
  • Create groups by region or project

What's different to WhatsApp?

Above all Guild is a safe space, helping your charity to remain GDPR compliant in its communications with stakeholders and audiences. Each member has their own private, secure profile and manages their own data.

You can also measure engagement, customise and brand your groups with your charity's logo and header,  host separate threaded chats to encourage easier and more effective conversations, and pin important content like guidelines and contact details at the top of the group so that it's always easy to navigate.

More about the differences between Guild and WhatsApp in this post. Note also the dangers of using WhatsApp for anything professional.

Sign up today and share this article with your network - especially this year, we all want to give back to those tireless charities who support so many communities around the UK.
